Many contaminants can get into your vehicle’s systems and affect them. To prevent damage and poor performance, many of your systems have filters. Here are the four most important ones.

Four Filters That Keep Your Car Clean

If you want to extend your car’s longevity, you need to be a thoughtful and caring owner. You need to provide it with the necessary maintenance. You have to regularly change your oil and other essential fluids, check your tires, and keep it clean. Part of keeping your car clean includes checking and replacing various filters. Several filters keep your oil, fuel, and air pollutant-free and your vehicle in good shape. If you neglect to change them, you can severely damage your car. Here’s what you need to know about the four main filters that keep your vehicle going.

Number 1: The Oil Filter

The importance of the oil filter should not be underestimated. Your engine is made up of many metal parts working together and rubbing against each other. As these elements grind together, tiny metal shavings can tear off and pollute the oil. As if dirt and debris weren’t enough to promote the formation of sludge in the engine, you also need to worry about metal contaminants. It’s the oil’s job to lubricate the area, cool the engine, reduce friction, and gather all those pollutants. As the oil travels, it leaves those contaminants in the oil filter. The filter restrains the pollutants and prevents them returning to the oil. There’s really no point to getting a synthetic oil change if you’re not going to change the filter too. The old oil filter might send all the contaminants back into the new oil. Next time you’re due for an oil change, make sure to get a synthetic oil change. Synthetic oil is by far better than conventional oil, and it can extend your oil change intervals. Don’t believe it? Give AMSOIL’s XL 0W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil a try, and you’ll see the difference. You can get your supplies for your synthetic oil change, including the oil filter from AMSOIL’s online store. Number 2: The Fuel Filter

There are two types of oil filters, and they function differently. It all depends on the kind of fuel you need. In engines that use gasoline, the filter traps the impurities found in the fuel. Since petroleum is organic, it’s bound to have some contaminants. Also, the tanks in which gas is stored have dirt and rust and other pollutants. These impurities won’t damage your engine, but they can make your fuel last for a shorter time. Using fuel additives such as AMSOIL’s  P.i. Performance Improver Gasoline Additive and refueling your gas tank smartly will help you have you want cleaner fuel and to get more out of your mileage. As for diesel engines, the fuel filter’s job is entirely different. Both filters help improve the overall performance and lifespan of the engine, but the diesel filter also prevents corrosion on some parts of the engine by removing build up water. The filter is a bowl-like contraption that collects water and separates it from diesel. You can later remove the drain plug to get rid of all the excess water. You don’t want water to get into your engine or fuel system since it can cause a lot of drama.

Number 3: The Air Filter

There’s always dirt, pollen, and all sort of debris traveling in the air. Your engine uses air for the combustion process, and that air is filled with pollutants. The air filter collects all these impurities. As a result, the combustion process goes by smoothly, and your engine keeps on performing at its best. If the air filter weren’t there to clean the air, the combustion process wouldn’t happen correctly, and it would reflect on your vehicle’s fuel intake and power. You can clean your air filter by using an air hose to blow out any debris. However, this is only a temporary fix. You will need to change the filter according to your owner’s manual recommendations. Usually, it’s about once a year. It can happen more frequently if you live in a particularly dusty area.

Number 4: The Cabin Air Filter

The cabin air filter doesn’t affect your car’s performance, but it can affect you. The same dust particles that collect in the air filter gather in the cabin air filter. Without the cabin air filter, pollen and dust would reach your cabin and affect your health. If you have allergies, you want to keep this filter clean.  To keep your breathing air clean, you need to change your filter once a year or more if you live in a dusty place.
